Free Time Converter – Convert Hours, Minutes and Seconds

Need to convert hours to minutes, minutes to seconds, or seconds back to hours? The free MyCruncher Time Converter helps you quickly calculate equivalent amounts of time.

Whether you're tracking work hours, planning a schedule, timing a workout, following cooking instructions, or completing a math assignment, this calculator makes everyday time conversions easier.

Simply enter an amount, choose the original time unit, select the destination unit, and click Convert Time.

The calculator displays the equivalent duration in your selected time unit. You can change the amount or units whenever needed.

How to Use the Time Converter

The MyCruncher Time Converter uses three simple inputs: an amount, a starting unit, and a destination unit.

  1. Enter Amount. Type the duration you want to convert, such as 2, 30, or 90.
  2. Select From. Choose Hours, Minutes, or Seconds as your starting measurement.
  3. Select To. Choose the unit you want the result to be expressed in.
  4. Click Convert Time. The calculator displays your converted value.
  5. Review the result. Check that the number and selected destination unit match your intention.
  6. Try another conversion. Change the amount or units and calculate again.

How Does Time Conversion Work?

Time conversion changes a duration from one unit into an equivalent duration using another time unit.

Hours, minutes and seconds have fixed relationships. One hour contains 60 minutes, and one minute contains 60 seconds.

1 Hour = 60 Minutes
1 Minute = 60 Seconds
1 Hour = 3,600 Seconds

To convert from a larger unit into a smaller unit, multiply by the number of smaller units it contains.

To convert from a smaller unit into a larger unit, divide by the appropriate conversion factor.

How to Convert Hours to Minutes

Multiply the number of hours by 60 to calculate minutes.

Minutes = Hours × 60

Hours to Minutes Calculation Example

Example: Suppose you want to convert 2 hours into minutes.

Step 1: Identify the Starting Amount

Starting Time = 2 Hours

Step 2: Identify the Conversion Factor

1 Hour = 60 Minutes

Step 3: Multiply

2 × 60 = 120
2 Hours = 120 Minutes

This is the same conversion shown in the default MyCruncher Time Converter example.

Step 4: Convert Minutes to Seconds

120 × 60 = 7,200 Seconds
2 Hours = 7,200 Seconds

How to Convert Minutes to Hours

Divide minutes by 60 to convert them into decimal hours.

Hours = Minutes ÷ 60

Minutes to Hours Example

Suppose you have 150 minutes of work.

150 ÷ 60 = 2.5 Hours
150 Minutes = 2.5 Hours

The decimal value 2.5 hours means two full hours plus half an hour, or 30 additional minutes.

How to Convert Minutes to Seconds

Every minute contains exactly 60 seconds. Multiply the number of minutes by 60.

Seconds = Minutes × 60

Minutes to Seconds Example

Example: Suppose your workout interval lasts 15 minutes.

15 × 60 = 900
15 Minutes = 900 Seconds

This is useful when comparing workout timers, video durations, or timed activities.

How to Convert Seconds to Minutes

Divide the number of seconds by 60 to find the equivalent number of minutes.

Minutes = Seconds ÷ 60

Seconds to Minutes Example

Suppose a video lasts 450 seconds.

450 ÷ 60 = 7.5 Minutes
450 Seconds = 7 Minutes, 30 Seconds

Remember that 7.5 minutes means seven and a half minutes, not seven minutes and five seconds.

How to Convert Hours to Seconds

One hour contains 60 minutes, and each minute contains 60 seconds.

Multiply hours by 3,600 to convert directly into seconds.

Seconds = Hours × 3,600

Hours to Seconds Example

Suppose a timed event lasts three hours.

3 × 3,600 = 10,800
3 Hours = 10,800 Seconds

How to Convert Seconds to Hours

Divide seconds by 3,600 to calculate the equivalent number of hours.

Hours = Seconds ÷ 3,600

Seconds to Hours Example

Suppose you want to convert 5,400 seconds into hours.

5,400 ÷ 3,600 = 1.5
5,400 Seconds = 1.5 Hours

That is equivalent to one hour and 30 minutes.

How to Convert Hours and Minutes to Decimal Hours

Decimal hours are often used for timesheets, labor estimates, and other time calculations.

Unlike clock notation, decimal hours represent fractions of an hour using a base-ten number.

Decimal Hours = Whole Hours + (Extra Minutes ÷ 60)

Work Hours Example

Example: Suppose someone works 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Step 1: Convert Minutes

45 ÷ 60 = 0.75 Hours

Step 2: Add Whole Hours

7 + 0.75 = 7.75
7 Hours, 45 Minutes = 7.75 Decimal Hours

For actual pay calculations, use the employer's approved timekeeping and rounding rules.

Decimal Hours vs. Hours and Minutes

A common mistake is treating a decimal fraction of an hour as if it represented ordinary clock minutes.

For example, 1.30 hours is not the same as 1 hour and 30 minutes.

0.30 × 60 = 18 Minutes
1.30 Decimal Hours = 1 Hour, 18 Minutes

By comparison, 1 hour and 30 minutes is 1.50 decimal hours.

1 Hour, 30 Minutes = 1.50 Decimal Hours

Video and Media

Convert video lengths, recording durations, and editing timelines.

Construction and Job Estimates

Convert work durations to help organize labor-hour estimates and project planning.

Time Duration vs. Clock Time

The MyCruncher Time Converter converts durations. It does not calculate the time of day.

For example, two hours is equivalent to 120 minutes regardless of when that duration begins.

However, calculating a meeting start time plus two hours requires clock-time arithmetic.

Time zones and daylight saving transitions can also affect real-world scheduled events.

Common Time Conversion Mistakes

  • Multiplying instead of dividing. Divide by 60 when converting minutes to hours.
  • Confusing decimal hours with clock minutes. 0.50 hours equals 30 minutes, not 50 minutes.
  • Using the wrong starting unit. Double-check the From selector.
  • Selecting the wrong destination unit. Confirm the To selector before calculating.
  • Rounding too early. Keep sufficient precision for longer calculations.
  • Mixing durations and timestamps. A duration conversion does not account for time zones.
  • Using unverified values for payroll. Always follow actual timekeeping and payroll rules.
